THE PROBLEM

No running water in schools means disease and dehydration abound creating many lost days of schooling and ill-health. Children that walk miles to school everyday cannot carry enough water to drink and wash their hands throughout an entire school day. 

OUR SOLUTION

Installing sustainableclean water systems in school compounds.

Community input: Providing some of the labor to construct the materials with school guidance in monitoring usage to omit wastefulness. 

GOAL 

Improved health and hygiene which results in fewer missed school days due to sickness. This feeds into our overall goal to reverse school-drops, reduce absenteeism and increase enrollment in primary schools so that children can complete 7 years of primary education and achieve a basic level of literacy. 

OPERATIONS

In partnership with parents, the foundation has installed clean water systems and provided maintenance of these systems over 13 years. 

RESULTS

Average 40% reduction in absenteeism.

Up to 20% increase in enrollment

Up 90% reduction in school-dropouts (excluding transfers).
