S.O.W
Sustainable Opportunities For Women
THE PROBLEM
Persisting hardships of being a rural woman in Uganda are borne out of a domestic lifestyle influenced mostly by economic factors that deprive women of job opportunities, skills building and/or educational options.
OUR SOLUTION
S.O.W. (Sustainable Opportunities for Women) is a skills builder, income generator and healthy space where women come together to bond and build self-esteem. Women learned a new skill – making top of the line hair accessories for girls that are marketed through a “Close the Gap” label in the U.S. They also made accessories that can be marketed to the local wedding business.
GOAL
Build a social enterprise that creates sustainable jobs for women. A portion of the profit generated goes back to into MCF to procure uniforms for children that don’t have any.
Cute bows that can be purchased for your child, a friend, or a loved one that carry the tagline “Personality, Pizzaz, Philanthropy“. Profits support programs such the provision of a school uniform for rural Ugandan children who don’t have any supported by our line of uniform accessories made from recycled private school uniforms.
OPERATIONS
All bow designs are created by MCF president who then trains the women in Kabale. While the line of products is still small in size, there is a growing interest in selling more varieties to a selection of high-end retail stores, private school uniformed children and also at speciality business shows.
RESULTS
A hardworking yet friendly community of women come together to learn from and support each other as they gain financial independence and an opportunity to help their families or work for themselves.
